Problem: The customer is a capital equipment designer and manufacturer. They were experiencing a problem with a robot operation that picked up a part in an isolation cell. The trouble came with the presentation of the part for pickup. A majority of the circumference of the part was left exposed for the robot to pick up. However, the part had a tendency to move in this position and cause pick up problems.
Solution: In October 2013, Fortville Feeders built two mechanisms at the end of a feeder system. The entire system consisted of a hopper, vibratory feeder bowl and a horizontal inline track that took parts to a common mounting plate and a singulation mechanism. The two individual mechanisms worked together to isolate the part and hold it in the correct attitude for successful interface with the robot.
